An Italian fisherman hunting for Octopus in the Adriatic Sea found the remains of a World War II-era P-47. Stars and Stripes reports that Filppo Salvagno netted something in 65-feet of water that he couldn’t raise but slowly dragged back to port. No remains were found with the wreckage, and most markings appear to be gone, but a local aviation enthusiasts group plans to try to restore the aircraft. The Stripes also reports that the fighter’s engine may have been found earlier and is at a Vicenza airfield.
Brig. Gen. Clarence E. “Bud” Anderson, the last surviving triple ace from World War II, was honored one last time by the nation's top Airmen when he was buried here with full military honors March 30.
