The Air Force has selected a contractor to carry out environmental restoration activities at the former Mather Air Force Base in Rancho Cordova, Calif., outside of Sacramento. Under the terms of the five-year, performance-based contract, URS Group will clean up sites at Mather, which closed in 1993. “This is another great example of how we are leveraging the best of what private industry has to offer to complete cleanup as quickly and cost-effectively as possible,” said Sig Csicsery of the Air Force Real Property Agency. The multiyear deal is expected to save the Air Force about $16 million compared to annual contracts. The Air Force remains responsible for all cleanup decisions. (Sacramento release)
