Members of the medical element of US Southern Command’s Joint Task Force-Bravo at Soto Cano AB, Honduras, performed four surgeries earlier this month at a hospital in Comayagua, announced task force officials. The six-person surgical team assisted the hospital in removing three gallbladders and one internal parasite from both adult and child patients on Aug, 7, according to the task force’s Aug. 13 release. “This day was exemplary of what we do on an ordinary basis, which is provide medical support services to a hospital and surgical team,” said Army Col. Ronald Rene, MEDEL general surgeon. The task force has been engaged in humanitarian medical activities in Honduras since the 1980s as part of SOUTHCOM’s outreach activities with friends and partners in Latin America, states the release.
