Last week, all of the Air Force medical treatment facilities in San Antonio merged under the 59th Medical Wing (Wilford Hall Medical Center) at Lackland AFB, Tex., as part of the San Antonio-wide BRAC 2005 moves that will form Joint Base San Antonio. The 12th Medical Group at Randolph AFB, Tex., is now the 359th MG, and Lackland’s 37th MG, working primarily with basic training operations, is now the 559th MG, among other changes. (59th MW release) Both Lackland and Randolph also consolidated their support functions under the 502nd Air Base Wing, headquartered at Ft. Sam Houston. (502nd ABW release) During Feb. 2 inactivations and activations, Lackland’s 37th Mission Support Group became the 802nd MSG, and Randolph’s 12th MSG became the 902nd MSG. The Air Force and Boeing agreed to a nearly $2.4 billion contract for a new lot of KC-46 aerial tankers on Nov. 21. The deal, announced by the Pentagon, is for 15 new aircraft in Lot 11 at a cost of $2.389 billion—some $159 million per tail.
