Air Force officials on July 23 broke ground on the Air Reserve Personnel Center’s new headquarters building that will be located on the grounds of Buckley AFB, Colo. “We are about to marry up a world-class facility with a world-class agency on a world-class installation,” said Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner, head of Air Force Reserve Command, before an audience of about 200 during the groundbreaking ceremony. Construction of the facility is expected to take about two years and cost about $17 million. The ARPC is moving to Buckley from its current site on what used to be Lowry Air Force Base per a BRAC 2005 decision. The new headquarters will allow ARPC to continue providing personnel services to nearly one million Air Force Reservists, Air National Guardsmen, and retirees. (Buckley report by Mike Molina)
The Pentagon is significantly bolstering airpower near Venezuela, dispatching the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to Latin America, it said in an Oct. 24 statement. The announcement came just hours after U.S. Air Force B-1 bombers and other U.S. assets flew near the Venezuelan coast on Oct. 23.
