Air Force Global Strike Command at Barksdale AFB, La., is now fully operational, less than 14 months after its initial activation to oversee the nation’s nuclear-capable bomber force and ICBMs. Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz, AFGSC commander, on Thursday declared the major command to be at full operational capability, having accomplished more than 700 action items, including establishing and manning a fully-functional headquarters, since its charter. “Our successful stand-up was possible because of the commitment, innovative spirit, and sheer hard work of Global Strike Command airmen,” said Klotz. He added, “This talented team of professionals put in place all the functions of a major command, while simultaneously executing those functions. This unique challenge was a lot like building an aircraft while actually flying it.” With the FOC milestone now behind it, the command on Friday will assume full responsibility for its planning, programming, and financial management activities.
