The 69th Bomb Squadron at Minot AFB, N.D., USAF’s newest operational B-52 bomber unit, is set to undergo its initial nuclear surety inspection starting Jan. 19. Minot officials activated the squadron last September as part of the 5th Bomb Wing. It joined the wing’s 23rd BS, giving Minot two combat-ready B-52 units and the Air Force four overall, when factoring the 20th BS and the 96th BS at Barksdale AFB, La. This NSI is meant to validate that the squadron is ready to execute its nuclear mission in a safe, secure, and reliable manner. “These inspections are detailed and tough, and we will have the opportunity to demonstrate our ability to perform at the highest level,” said Col. Douglas Cox, 5th BW boss. He added, “Although it’s a challenge, we welcome the opportunity to show the professionalism and dedication of our airmen.” (Minot report by A1C Benjamin Stratton)
