The Air Force has launched a Web site to showcase its “Year of the Air Force Family” initiative that started in July and runs to July 2010. Airmen and their families are encouraged to visit the site (click here) to learn about service-wide initiatives supporting the effort, which the Air Force leadership launched to address areas of concern facing Air Force families and highlight the service’s commitment to all airmen—married and single—spouses, children, Air Force civilians, extended families, and retirees. “The strength of the nation’s Air Force is not the platforms we operate or the technologies we employ,” said Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz. He continued, “It is our airmen and their families. The Air Force is a great place to work, live, and play. Our intent is to make it even better.” (SAF/PA report by 1st Lt. A provision in the fiscal 2025 defense policy bill will require the Defense Department to include the military occupational specialty of service members who die by suicide in its annual report on suicide deaths, though it remains to be seen how much data the department will actually disclose.
