Air Force Stands Up New Squadron to Keep Growing EW Expertise

The Air Force has launched yet another new squadron dedicated to electronic warfare as part of its effort to expand expertise in the field. The 23rd Electronic Warfare Squadron stood up at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., home to the service’s sole wing focused on EW, the 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing, on April 18. It is the 11th squadron under the wing, which activated less than four years ago.

Engineers at NASA are developing a solution to address the potential for “dropped calls” in drones, self-flying electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis, and other future aircraft. The space agency on April 22 said that by the end of the year, researchers aim to design, build, and test what it describes as an “active phased array aerogel antenna” that can be embedded under an aircraft’s skin.
