The Air Force has fulfilled all actions mandated under the 2005 round of BRAC, announced service officials Thursday. In six year’s time, Air Force officials executed seven closures and orchestrated 63 realignments at 122 installations to implement BRAC’s 64 USAF-specific recommendations. In all, the service carried out 401 actions. “The headquarters Air Force BRAC team worked in unison with teams at each major command to execute all requirements of this Congressional mandate,” said Kathleen Ferguson, USAF’s deputy assistant secretary for installations. “Although BRAC 2005 did not completely meet the Air Force’s infrastructure reduction requirements, we are more streamlined and better positioned” as an operational force, she added. Air Force officials said the service completed the transformation on time and within the $3.8 billion budgeted. The basing changes are expected to result in $1.4 billion in annual savings.
