Maj. Kenny Harryman, an Air Force nurse assigned to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, has received a Bronze Star Medal for her meritorious service during a deployment to Afghanistan from April 2008 to November 2008. The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., Harryman’s home town, reported Nov. 25 that she worked on 325 trauma cases helping wounded US troops, Afghan civilians, National Army, and police during that time as chief nurse of the 48th Combat Support Hospital at forward operating base “Salerno.” The base was often under attack. Harryman received her Bronze Star in September, but her official award ceremony will not be until early next year, reported Louisville’s WAVE TV 3 news channel Nov. 26.
