Air Force Global Strike Command boss Lt. Gen. Stephen Wilson said 8th Air Force has wrapped up its Force Improvement Program and he expects to get briefed from the teams on Sept. 19. “What we found is that many of the same things in the ICBM program carried over to the bomber [career fields],” Wilson told reporters Tuesday at AFA’s Air & Space Conference in National Harbor, Md. The Air Force has steadily been working its way through the nearly 350 recommendations to come from the 20th Air Force FIP and Wilson said he expects a similar list to come from this review. Although he couldn’t elaborate on the details quite yet, he said he expects to “roll out things in early November.” He added, “This is a new way of doing business.”
The Air Force and Boeing agreed to a nearly $2.4 billion contract for a new lot of KC-46 aerial tankers on Nov. 21. The deal, announced by the Pentagon, is for 15 new aircraft in Lot 11 at a cost of $2.389 billion—some $159 million per tail.
