The Air Force has just released a policy update on wear of the new Airman Battle Uniform, now that it is becoming more prevalent, reports SSgt. Monique Randolph. For one thing, the message reaffirms that November 2011 is the date when all airmen must have and wear the new ABU. Until then, the service will sport the old battle dress uniform and the new ABU. The new one is more costly and that’s one reason for the lengthy transition. The service plans to increase the clothing allowance beginning next month. There was no hint in this report of claims by some airmen that the new ABU jacket is a little hard to take in extreme heat.
Lt. Gen. Stephen L. Davis, the Department of the Air Force’s top internal watchdog, has been nominated to lead Air Force Global Strike Command, which oversees the service’s bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
