The Switch to Seoul Is On: South Korea may call for an end to the South Korea-US Combined Forces Command when Seoul assumes operational control of its own military during wartime. According to the Korea Times, Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung confirmed that the two allies are working on the wartime transfer of responsibility and other options to include disestablishing the CFC. He would not acknowledge that both parties had settled on a date.
A provision in the fiscal 2025 defense policy bill will require the Defense Department to include the military occupational specialty of service members who die by suicide in its annual report on suicide deaths, though it remains to be seen how much data the department will actually disclose.
