Roudebush Nominated as USAF Top Doc: President Bush has nominated Maj. Gen. James G. Roudebush for a third star and to become the Air Force Surgeon General. Roudebush, who currently serves as the deputy SG, would replace Lt. Gen. George Peach Taylor Jr., who plans to retire this summer. Roudebush entered the Air Force in 1975 after receiving his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Nebraska and has served as command surgeon of US Central Command, Pacific Air Forces, and US Transportation Command.
Airmen basic rarely go on to become four-star generals, but one who did retired last week after a 42 year career that saw him rise from a lowly slick-sleeve to the head of one of the Air Force’s most important major commands.
