On the day he took command, the new Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Michael Moseley, wrote in a letter to all USAF airmen that the nation had been “fighting the Global War on Terror for two-and-one-half months longer than World War II.” He praised the efforts of airmen and other military members in this long war, saying, “We fight together. We triumph together.” He also declared, “Our promise to the joint team is that as airmen we will always be the best in the world at what we do: dominating air and space from one inch above the ground to 100,000 miles above the Earth.”
Air Force Gen. Jacqueline D. Van Ovost—a trailblazer and one of the first 10 women to reach a four-star rank across the U.S. military—retired and passed control of U.S. Transportation Command to Air Force Gen. Randall Reed on Oct. 4, finishing an eventful tenure at TRANSCOM.
