Boeing is offering a C-17A-Plus that could bring three times the cargo of a C-130 to a short, unimproved runway, Marcotte reports. New engines, additional landing gear and other changes would allow the aircraft to take off and land in as little as 2,000 feet. No word on what the Pentagon thinks of this proposal.
The Air Force and Boeing agreed to a nearly $2.4 billion contract for a new lot of KC-46 aerial tankers on Nov. 21. The deal, announced by the Pentagon, is for 15 new aircraft in Lot 11 at a cost of $2.389 billion—some $159 million per tail.
