With that argument, they hope to get Cannon off the BRAC closure list. The Clovis (NM) News-Journal notes that Democratic Sen. Jeff Bingaman says that $167 million of the $209 million slated for Eglin would pay for infrastructure that Cannon already has. Republican Sen. Pete Domenici noted that Cannon also has pilot training experience.
The U.K. and the U.S. will continue to enjoy access to the ports, airfield, and workshops at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean for at least another century, under a deal inked between the U.K. and Mauritius May 22.
