The Defense Department on Dec. 22 identified the six airmen—four Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents and two security forces members—killed by a suicide bomber driving a motorcycle near Bagram AB, Afghanistan. They include: Maj. Adrianna Vorderbruggen, 36, with the 9th Field Investigations Squadron at Eglin AFB, Fla.; SSgt. Michael Cinco, 28, with the 11th Field Investigations Squadron at JBSA-Randolph, Texas; SSgt. Peter Taub, 30, with AFOSI Det. 816 at Ellsworth AFB, S.D.; SSgt. Chester McBride, 30, with AFOSI Det. 405 at Maxwell AFB, Ala.; TSgt. Joseph Lemm, 45, with the Air National Guard’s 105th Security Forces Squadron at Stewart ANGB, N.Y.; and SSgt. Louis Bonacasa, 31, who also was assigned to the 105th SFS. Vorderbruggen was an outspoken opponent to the military’s former “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and was one of the first service members to marry when the policy was rescinded, according to the Military Partners and Families Coalition. The OSI agents were deployed to the Expeditionary Det. 2405 at Bagram Air Field. “It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of the deadliest day in our command’s history,” said OSI Commander Brig. Gen. Keith Givens in Dec. 22 release. “The OSI family will undoubtedly rise to the occasion yet again and honor these great Americans, but for now, I ask for your thoughts and prayers to go out to the families and loved ones of the Fallen.”
The Air Force is leaning toward a less-sophisticated autonomous aircraft in the second increment of the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, the services chief futurist said. He also suggested that the next increment of CCA may be air-launched, a la the "Rapid Dragon" experiments conducted by the service in recent years.
