Kadena AB, Japan, has reopened facilities now that Typhoon Neoguri is clear of the island of Okinawa, officials said Wednesday. US facilities on Kyushu, one of Japan’s three main islands which hosts Navy Base Sasebo, are now taking precautions in advance of the storm. Over 60 USAF, Navy, and Marine aircraft were flown from Okinawa to locations in Japan, Guam, and the Philippines earlier this week before the storm’s impact. As of Wednesday afternoon, they had not yet returned. While the storm has weakened, heavy rainfall is anticipated through Thursday evening.
The last remaining T-1 Jayhawk at JBSA-Randolph, Texas, took its final flight to the "Boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., on July 15. The 99th Flying Training Squadron will train pilots using T-6 and simulator until it gets T-7 Red Hawk in fiscal 2026.
