Air Mobility Command’s 715th Air Mobility Operations Group has relocated to JB Elmendorf, Alaska, from Hickam AFB, Hawaii, officials at Elmendorf announced Monday. The move positions the group to support better the en route infrastructure for moving forces in Alaska and the eastern Pacific region, they said. “Alaska is growing in its importance as a strategic location,” said Col. William Murphey, who assumed command of the group on June 17. He said Elmendorf “is the right place” for the group. This AMOG is a component of Hickam’s 515th Air Mobility Operations Wing. The wing stood up in June 2008 as AMC’s first wing outside of the contiguous 48 US states. (Elmendorf report by SSgt. Brian Ferguson)
