The Air Force has awarded a Bronze Star medal to Lt. Col. Terence Mitchell, the chief of medical staff with the 1st Special Operations Medical Group at Hurlburt Field, Fla., for his actions while deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. He provided health care to military and civilian personnel and showed “an extraordinary ability to operate in the most uncertain and fluid combat environments,” according to the medal citation. Col. One Airman was killed and three others injured in a vehicle mishap at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., on June 29. Additionally, two first responder Airmen sustained injuries responding to the incident. All five injured Airmen have been transported to nearby medical facilities, according to a release from the base.
