Tomorrow begins Air Force Week festivities in Omaha, Neb., that will run through Aug. 17. During the nine-day celebration of the service, the Air Force will sponsor events to get its message out and build relationships with the local community around Omaha and nearby Offutt Air Force Base. The festivities will culminate with a “Defenders of Freedom” open house and air show at Offutt on Aug. 16 and Aug. 17 that will include performances by the Thunderbirds air demonstration team. Philadelphia hosted the first Air Force Week in 2008 in late May. The third and final Air Force Week is scheduled for Los Angeles in November.
Air Force Gen. Jacqueline D. Van Ovost—a trailblazer and one of the first 10 women to reach a four-star rank across the U.S. military—retired and passed control of U.S. Transportation Command to Air Force Gen. Randall Reed on Oct. 4, finishing an eventful tenure at TRANSCOM.
