California Really Wants Cyber Command: State legislators in California have passed a bill signifying that the state’s lawmakers offer “unanimous support” for positioning the Air Force’s new Cyber Command at Beale Air Force Base in northern California, reports the California Chronicle. “Passage of this measure sends a very strong message to the Pentagon and the United States Air Force,” said State Sen. Sam Aanestad (R). He added, according to the Chronicle: “This vote tells USAF leaders that Cyber Command operations are wanted and needed in the north state. I am hopeful that passage of this measure will convince planners that Beale Air Force Base is the best choice.” The Air Force is in the midst of reviewing the claims by some 18 states to house the headquarters for the new command.
Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, nominee to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Defense Department needs to upgrade its electronic warfare capability and its EW training ranges; just as his predecessor said at his own confirmation hearing.
