The housing boom has arrived at Schriever AFB, Colo., as officials gathered May 16 to break ground for the base’s first housing development. It was just 25 years earlier that the Air Force first began construction at then-Falcon Air Force Base. Over the next three years, Tierra Vista Communities, a housing privatization partnership between USAF and Actus Lend Lease, plans to construct 242 new single family and duplex homes at the long-time commuter facility. According to a May 13 Schriever release, the development’s homes will feature environmentally friendly extras such as tankless water heaters, energy efficient appliances, and spray foam insulation.
The Government Accountability Office wants the Air Force to explain who will run bases when wings deploy under the service’s new force generation model along with several other unanswered questions, saying the concept is long on vision but short on details.
