Cannon Very Much in Contention for Special Ops: The Air Force now has a report that indicates the service should seriously consider Cannon AFB, N.M., as a possible site for elements of Air Force Special Operations Command, reports the Clovis (N.M) News-Journal. AFSOC spokesman Matt Durham tells the newspaper that AFSOC believes either Cannon or Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., would suit the command’s plans, which include gaining a training facility with desert-like conditions. An AFSOC team visited Cannon earlier this year.
The last remaining T-1 Jayhawk at JBSA-Randolph, Texas, took its final flight to the "Boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., on July 15. The 99th Flying Training Squadron will train pilots using T-6 and simulator until it gets T-7 Red Hawk in fiscal 2026.
