Space Boss Receives Sword: The enlisted personnel of Air Force Space Command recently entered Gen. Lance W. Lord into the select company of the Order of the Sword. Lord, who is AFSPC commander, announced in December that he would retire from the Air Force on April 1. CMSgt. Ron Kriete, AFSPC’s top enlisted, called Lord “a great leader, a great general, and more importantly, a great gentleman.” Lord noted that from his first assignment he has “been in the care of airmen.” He added, “It’s a dumb general who doesn’t listen to his chief.”
Airmen basic rarely go on to become four-star generals, but one who did retired last week after a 42 year career that saw him rise from a lowly slick-sleeve to the head of one of the Air Force’s most important major commands.
