Gen. Michael Moseley, Air Force Chief of Staff, and Lt. Gen. Daniel James III, director of the Air National Guard, addressed senior ANG leaders at a three-day conference in Baltimore. After the brouhaha over the 2005 BRAC initiatives, it must have been an interesting session. (Read our article “Total Force Turbulence.”) Moseley talked about the active force and Air Guard being on the “same team” in the global war on terror. He urged them to think about “what the fight looks like 20 years from now.” James vowed to continue to “transform this organization to meet the needs for the defense of this country.” He emphasized that ANG “must be seen as part of the solution to the changing Air Force.”
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
