“Kill Something Big”: What Air Combat Command does, it does very well, and better than anyone else in the world, ACC chief Gen. Ronald Keys said Tuesday. However, he asserted, “That doesn’t mean it needs to be done.” Keys said his command is using Air Force Smart Operations 21 to scrutinize what it does, looking for “what it doesn’t have to do” towards cutting its share of USAF’s upcoming personnel cuts as painlessly and efficiently as possible. He wants to find functions that have become unnecessary, or which don’t add value, because “I need to kill something big.” ACC expects to absorb the largest share of USAF’s 40,000 full-time personnel cut, but he wants to make certain the command works it such that it doesn’t “stress the [career fields] that aren’t [stressed].”
