The Electronic Systems Center has awarded Computer Sciences Corp. a contract valued at $627.8 million to set up the Expeditionary Combat Support System, an effort designed to help streamline USAF logistics operations. According to an ESC release, CSC will apply commercial-off-the-shelf software to consolidate logistics processes and make them more user friendly. The new system will replace more than 400 separate current systems. It is scheduled to be fully operational by January 2013.
Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, nominee to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Defense Department needs to upgrade its electronic warfare capability and its EW training ranges; just as his predecessor said at his own confirmation hearing.
