Travis C-17s On the Way: Local dignitaries, base officials, and base personnel were on hand at Travis AFB, Calif., June 3 for a C-17 demonstration flight in anticipation of the arrival in August of the first of the base’s 13 new airlifters, reports the Vacaville (Calif.) Reporter. The C-17s will join the base’s C-5s and KC-10s, making Travis one of USAF’s most versatile mobility assets.
The United States Air Force is flying less than historic norms and funding for acquisition and readiness is on a path to further hollow out this too small and old force to that is incapable of sustaining an enduring combat air campaign.
