The House version of the 2008 military construction appropriations bill contains $100 million to fund construction to turn McGuire Air Force Base, Ft. Dix, and NAS Lakehurst in New Jersey into the BRAC 2005-proposed megabase. “This is the most appropriated funding we’ve ever seen for Ft. Dix and McGuire Air Force Base,” says Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.) in a statement. He continued, “The impact on the South Jersey economy will be felt for years.”
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
