Prospective Reserve officers will get their officer training at Maxwell AFB, Ala., the home of the active duty Officer Training School. Previously, Air Force Reserve Command had trained its officer force at both Maxwell and McGhee-Tyson ANGB, Tenn., at the ANG’s I.G. Brown Training and Education Center. The Air Force believes the consolidation at Maxwell will provide more uniform training and help combat possible “tunnel vision” in differing curriculums, said Maj. Gen. Charles Stenner Jr., assistant deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and programs. He said that the Air National Guard also is considering moving its commissioning program to Maxwell.
A provision in the fiscal 2025 defense policy bill will require the Defense Department to include the military occupational specialty of service members who die by suicide in its annual report on suicide deaths, though it remains to be seen how much data the department will actually disclose.
