Leaving his post this month to assume leadership of The Citadel, the South Carolina military academy and his alma mater, Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. John Rosa told reporters that leading the school has been the most challenging and rewarding assignment in his 32 years of service. Arriving in 2003 in the midst of a sexual assault scandal and leaving shortly after this year’s complaints about evangelical proselytizing, Rosa said the school has just been through “unquestionably this institution’s biggest challenge in its 50-year history.” He said the Air Force’s new sexual assault guidelines, which grew out of the Academy’s difficulties, are now a model for the entire military.
