It’s Not Over Till It’s Over: Is the Air Force planning to relocate the 46th Test Wing from Eglin AFB, Fla., to Edwards AFB, Calif.? That question is the topic of the hour for Eglin’s civilian workforce and surrounding communities, which could see a significant economic drain if the rumor proves true, according to the Pensacola (Fla.) News Journal. Reportedly the Air Force is considering moving the 46th TW from Eglin to Edwards as a cost-saving effort. Such an event was not forecast in BRAC 2005, from which Eglin emerged whole. The 46th Test Wing currently falls under the Air Armament Center, the host organization at Eglin.
The Air Force and Boeing agreed to a nearly $2.4 billion contract for a new lot of KC-46 aerial tankers on Nov. 21. The deal, announced by the Pentagon, is for 15 new aircraft in Lot 11 at a cost of $2.389 billion—some $159 million per tail.
