Guam’s KUAM TV reports that the Air Force has offered three options in an environmental impact statement outlining the service’s plans for Andersen AFB, Guam. Service officials have said they want to place Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles and possibly aerial refuelers on the island, in addition to using it to stage fighter and bomber forces. KUAM says the EIS provides alternatives for various mixes of manned and unmanned aircraft, both permanent and rotational, and the obligatory alternative for no permanent aircraft. Raytheon, a division of defense giant RTX, recently announced a multiyear deal with the Pentagon to increase annual production of the Air Force’s primary dogfighting missile by more than 50 percent from two years ago.
