The Gallup Poll finds that the “was it a mistake” question it has asked about wars in Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq offers a surprising look at the political landscape. It is true that Democrats and Republicans have differing views about whether it was a mistake to send troops to Korea and Iraq—just not the same view for each war. Democrats favored the Korean War, while Republicans show more support for the war in Iraq. About two months after the Pentagon released a congressionally mandated study on military suicide rates broken down by career field, the senator who led the charge for the study is telling Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III that the released data falls short of what was required by the law.
